D.A.S.H. FOR YOUR HEART’S SAKE
(Blood Pressure Management)
Objective: Empower the customer to make different food choices to increase their
intake of fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy products and to decrease the intake
of sodium in order to reduce and control blood pressure levels.
Scope of Class: We start with teaching customers to recognize signs and symptoms
of heart attack and stroke. They will learn about hypertension, normal levels of
blood pressure and how to prevent heart disease. We discuss the recommendations
of the American Heart Association regarding fruits, vegetables and low fat dairy
and easy ways to make change. We also discuss high sodium foods and how to use
the Nutrition Facts Label (food label) to identify sodium content. The class
closes with knowledge on a simple change process and how to keep a journal to
document progress in lifestyle change.
